Douglas Massey

Douglas S. Massey ( born 1952 in Olympia, Washington) is an American sociologist. Massey is currently a professor at Princeton University and adjunct professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania.

His specialty is the sociology of migration; He has also worked on the segregation in certain neighborhoods of the black underclass in the United States.

Massey was the 92nd President of the American Sociological Association and has received several awards for his books. Among other things, he is a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence Research at the University of Bielefeld.

Massey received his B. A. 1974 in sociology, psychology and Spanish at Western Washington University and in 1977 the MA Sociology Department at Princeton University, Princeton. In 1978 he received his doctorate at Princeton.

His research interests are in the fields: demography; Urban sociology; Race and ethnicity; International Migration; Latin American societies, especially Mexico
