Douwe Egberts

DE Master Blenders in 1753, formerly known as Douwe Egberts (full name Douwe Egberts Koninklijke Tabaksfabriek - Koffiebranderijen - Theehandel Naamloze Vennootschap ), founded in 1753 is a Dutch company that makes coffee and tea products and the Netherlands is the market leader. Until 1998 was also traded with tobacco, including the brand Drum.

History

The company was founded in 1753 in the village of Joure friesländischen as grocery Egbert Douwes. It is named after his son Douwe Egberts (1755-1806), who took over the business in 1780. The quaint furnished shop still exists, but is almost purely out as a souvenir shop where you can buy tea and sweets.

After the Second World War, offices were opened in France, Spain, Denmark and Belgium. Douwe Egberts drove the Wigomat (which is the first coffee machine was ) in the Benelux countries, and thus contributed significantly to the popularity of filter coffee at.

In 1978 the company was taken over by the U.S. Sara Lee Corporation.

1989 took over the traditional competitors Van Nelle, who was also active in the coffee and tobacco area. 1998, the entire tobacco division was sold to Imperial Tobacco.

2001 went Douwe Egberts a partnership with Philips Senseo coffee machine for the production of a.

In 2005 they separated from the rice division Lassie. Since then, Douwe Egberts has only drinks in the portfolio.

2012 Sara Lee has been split. Sara Lee has since been trading as Hillshire Brands, Douwe Egberts has been in DE Master Blenders 1753 NV renamed, moved to the Amsterdam Stock Exchange and is henceforth responsible for activities outside of North America. DE Master Blenders was taken on September 24, 2012 due to the market capitalization, which significantly exceeded 5 billion euros, in the AEX index.

2013 DE Master Blenders in 1753 was taken over by a consortium led by Joh A. Benckiser SE. Since October 29, 2013, the stock is no longer listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. On the Nasdaq, the stock is still traded however. Also in 2013 gave DE Master Blenders in 1753 an agreement for the acquisition of 90 % of the Norwegian coffee roaster Kaffehuset Friele known at the date of 45% were maintained.
