Dove-Myer Robinson

Sir Dove - Myer Robinson ( born June 15, 1901 in Sheffield, England; † August 14, 1989 in Auckland ) was a New Zealand environmental activist and local politician of English origin.

Life

He was with his terms of office from 1959 to 1965 and again from 1968 to 1980 the longest serving mayor of Auckland. In his youth, was a successful motorcycle athlete. He won several times the New Zealand title in the Beiwagenklasse. In the years 1942-1959 he was the owner of a Auckländer company for children's clothing. Robinson joined as an activist against the early 1950s to planned discharges of inadequately treated sewage to Browns Iceland, which would have led to contamination of the Waitemata Harbour. He was able to prevent the project.
