Draillant

Draillant is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Draillant is located on 631 m above sea level. M., 8 km south of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Bas -Chablais, in a shaped by glacial moraines of the Rhone glacier hills at the northern foot of the Savoy Alps ( Mont Forchat ).

The area of ​​10.41 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bas -Chablais and the adjacent foothills. The area is drained by the Ruisseau du Redon and its headwaters north to Lake Geneva. To the south and southeast of the communal land extends over a steep slope up to the heights of Cret Vernay ( 1220 m above sea level. M. ) Col des Moises and Très le Mont ( 1370 m above sea level. M. ). On the west summit of Mont Forchat is 1512 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Draillant.

To Draillant include the hamlet settlements Cursinges (630 m above sea level. M. ) on the Ruisseau des Moises and Maugny ( 634 m above sea level. M. ). Neighboring communities of Draillant are Allinges in the north, and Orcier Lullin in the east, Habère- Poche to the south and Cervens and Perrignier in the West.

History

Draillant 1227 first mentioned under the name Drallens; of 1229, the name Draillens is preserved. The place name probably goes back to the Burgundian personal names Thragila or Drogila and means with the suffix -ene as much as the people of Thragila. Draillant was the site of a Cluniazenserpriorats, which was dependent before the Reformation of Geneva.

1974 Draillant was merged with the neighboring Perrignier. The end of 2000 but it was re-established an independent municipality.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Pierre goes back in the core of a building of the early 13th century.

Population

With 739 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Draillant one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Draillant was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the environment or in Thonon -les- Bains.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Perrignier on the connecting road D903. Further road links exist with Cervens and Orcier.
