Dreambox

Dreambox is the name for the DVB receiver in Lünen (North Rhine -Westphalia) based company Dream Multimedia GmbH.

There are receivers in different versions: DM 100, DM 500 ( ), DM 500 HD, DM 5600, DM 5620, DM 600 PVR DM 7000, DM 7020, DM 7020 HD DM 7025 ( ), DM 800 HD PVR, DM 800 HD se and DM 8000 HD PVR.

The Dreambox 7000 was the first receiver at all, which was delivered "ex works" with a Linux operating system.

All receivers have in common that they (apart from the DM 100) work with a Linux operating system. Thus they are customizable by the owner to the respective requirements. The older models it was only for DVB -S. Since 2006, there are also models for the reception of DVB -C and DVB -T. This is achieved either by separate models ( in the 500 series ), or through plug- and thus interchangeable tuner modules ( HD 7020 and 8000 at 600, 800, 7025, ). Some models offer the additional option of a 2.5 - to integrate hard disk " or 3.5". This will simultaneously for about 6 shots and time-shifted television ( Timeshift ) enabled.

Larger notoriety in the media got the Dream boxes in the spring of 2007, when it became known that with appropriate software, the Nagravision encryption could be undermined by Premiere.

The receivers are able to display the new information service Radio Screen Show ( transmission of images in parallel with the reception of radio transmitters).

Models

DM 100

The DM 100 is the smallest of all the dream boxes ( 195 mm × 130 mm × 30 mm). From the DM 100 there is only one satellite variant. The operating system is not based on Linux as the other models, and is also open source. Reason for this is that the company Dream Multimedia neither seller of DM 100 is still the developers of the software. It was only licensed to use the name and taken the technical support.

DM 500 and DM 500

The DM500 and DM500 do not have a LCD screen but just 2 status LEDs and their dimensions are very compact ( 195 mm × 130 mm × 40 mm). The DM500 it was from the factory as DVB -S, DVB -C and DVB- T version, the DM500 only as DVB -S. However, the tuners are not, as in the newer boxes, interchangeable. The DM500 also has 32 MB NAND Flash and 96 MB RAM, unlike the DM500 with 8 MB NOR Flash and 32 MB RAM and enhanced Ethernet interface ( chipset DM500 was too slow ).
