iPKG

IPKG (acronym for " Itsy Package Management System " (English, " tiny package management system " ) ) is a free ( GPL ) package management system. The format was designed as a package manager for computers with few resources and is used inter alia by Openmoko, Zaurus and OpenWrt. In the following, special attention was paid during development:

  • The control programs themselves are very small.
  • The installed metadata are limited to the most important.
  • The available packages are as small as possible. The package tree should be very finely granulated.

Packets of this format have the extension ipk. . Derived this format is the Debian package system. Therefore, it is relatively easy to convert existing Debian packages in iPKG format, thereby packages must not be created from scratch in the rule. Since version 0.99 supports iPKG Debian packages directly.

IPKG is not currently being developed. With opkg but there is a fork that is actively developed.
