Dresden Philharmonic

The Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra is a project funded by the city of Dresden Concert Orchestra, which was founded in 1870 as " Trade house orchestra".

History

On the occasion of the inauguration of an accessible for the citizens of the town hall event (commercial house hall ), which was located near The Duchess Garden, was founded on 29 November 1870, the " Trade house orchestra". In 1909 it was one of the first German orchestra, which went on tour in the USA. 1915, the name was changed to "Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra ". Under Paul van Kempen, chief conductor from 1934 to 1942, the orchestra became one of the best in Germany. 1947 to 1963 was chief conductor Heinz Bongartz front of the orchestra. Kurt Masur worked since 1955 as conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic, 1967-1972, he led the orchestra as principal conductor. In the period 1986-1995 Jörg- Peter Weigle conducted the orchestra. 2003-2011 was Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, chief conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic, currently (since the season 2011/ 2012), it is Michael Sanderling. The director of the orchestra since 2005 Anselm rose.

Repertoire and venues

Today, the orchestra consists of 116 musicians and is native to the forest lodge complex. For years there in Dresden, the desire for a new concert hall for the Dresden Philharmonic.
