DRG Class 98.10

The locomotives of the class 98.10 ( unofficially GtL 4/5) were steam locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

After the vehicles of the Bavarian type GTL had 4/4 proved to be very reliable and all had been taken over by the Reichsbahn, they decided to recreate this. There they were, however, quite slowly at 40 km / hr, subsequently modified in the design and created the so-called GTL 4/5 with an additional rear barrel axis, which was connected to the last dome axis to a Krauss- Helmholtz bogie.

Krauss gave 1929 first five copies of these machines. It was followed by 1930 and 1931 six and ten more locomotives. The remaining machines were produced by the newly formed company Krauss- Maffei in 1932 and 1933.

Despite the extra barrel axis top speed could be increased only to 45 km / h so that it later to another based on the GTL 4/4 conversion and new construction came (Series 98.11 ( 1'D ) and LAG 87 and 88 ( 1'D1 ')).

All 45 locomotives of the series 98.10 left after the Second World War in the German Federal Railroad. The withdrawal began in 1957 and was completed in 1966.
