Drikung Kagyu

The Drigung Kagyu (Tibetan: ' bri supply bka ' brgyud ) is one of the so-called " eight smaller schools " of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism ( Vajrayana ). It is among the schools that emerged from the lineage of Marpa the Translator ( 1012-1097 ).

Formation

The Drigung school was of Drigung Jigten Gönpo ( Tib: ' bri supply ' jig rten mgon po, 1143-1217 ), also Jigten Sumgon ( Tib. 'jig rten gsum mgon ) called, a student of Phagmo Drupa, with the founding of the monastery Drigung Thil launched in 1179 in Tibet to life. Jigten Gönpo was considered a reincarnation of the great Mahayana Buddhist scholar Nagarjuna according to tradition, the first Karmapa Düsum Khyenpa and the Indian Mahapandita Shakya Shribhadra (because of the mention of a Sinhalese Arhats and his vision of Tara ). The Drigung school was at the beginning of probably the most common sub- school of the Kagyu. Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school tradition, received in 1373 in Drigung Thil from the eleventh Drigungpa Chokyi Gyalpo ( 1334-1407 ), the traditions of the " Fivefold Path of Mahamudra " ( Tib: Phyag chen lnga ldan ), the "Great Drigung ritual to bring forth of bodhicitta " ( Tib: ' Bri supply sems bskyed chen mo) and a yoga for longevity. The school still has a special weight in Ladakh. Since the 17th century, it is run by the incarnations of the " two brothers ", currently the 37th Throne Holder " Drigung Chetsang " ( Tib: ' bri supply che rin po che tshang ) and 36th Throne Holder " Drigung Chungtsang Rinpoche " ( Tib: ' bri supply monitoring tshang rin po che ). These two go back to two of the most important abbots Drigung Thils, namely Könchog Ratna (1590-1654) and his younger brother Rigzin Chokyi dragpa ( 1595-1659 ). Prior to this tradition mainly by ordained members of the Kyura ( Tib: sKyu ra ) was passed family.

Teaching

Among the most important lessons Jigten Gönpos include the dGongs gcig ( "the one intention" ) ( as the title says the text), a text in which he regards the perception, behavior and practice at the core of the Buddha's teaching - his " an intention " - trying to tie. In the eight chapters of the book of the scholarly tradition continues subdivided over time teachings are returned to the " one main point ". Instance, it is shown that the three forms of vows (the handset, the Bodhisattvas, and Tantric ) actually have a single core point, namely the avoidance of unwholesome actions ( dGongs gcig 1.24), or the three " rotations of the wheel of doctrine " are basically arranged such that, in each of each other are included. Another important work is the Theg chen pa'i bstan snying po ( " Essence of Mahayana teachings" ) that the " stages of teaching" ( bstan rim) and texts is an overview of all topics Mahayana (including the Tantra ) there. The main practice of the Drigungpa is the Phyag chen lnga ldan ( " Five-membered Riger path of Mahamudra " ) with the members ( 1) Bodhichitta, (2) Tantric deity (Tib. yi dam), (3) Guru Yoga of the four Kaya ( Nirmana -, Sambhoga, Dharma and Svabhavikakaya (see also trikaya ) ), (4 ) mahamudra, and (5) dedication of wholesome mental impressions. It taught Jigten Gönpo that the five members of this practice are permanently maintained and must be fully contained in each practice session ( dGongs gcig 2.14. ). Jigten Gönpo also provided the classic Kagyu practices such as the "Six Yogas of Naropa " and Gampopa special Mahamudra transmission of " innate unity" (Tib. lhan cig skyes sbyor ) and the "Four Yogas of Mahamudra ." In later times Termas the northern tradition of the treasures were ( byang gter ) submitted by the Drigungpas, of which the practice of " Yangzab " Dzogchen is the most significant. Of particular importance is the special Drigung practice of transference of consciousness " powa ".
