Drinking in public

As prohibition of alcohol consumption in public measures are referred to, where the consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in public places in whole or in part, and is covered with punishment.

Germany

Basically, in German law, the General freedom of action (Article 2, Section 1 of the Basic Law), as long as it is not restricted by the local regulations. Therefore, in Germany tried some cities the harassment and violent crimes by highly intoxicated people in public places to prevent a ban of alcohol in public.

Already since 1999, said the Berliner Straße law the consumption of alcohol in public. This could be punished by fine of 10 euros and a sending-off. However, this was canceled in mid- 2006. During the year 2008, however, led other cities in Germany, a ban on alcohol in public. For example Marburg on 16 December 2007 and Freiburg im Breisgau on January 1, 2008. In the course of this example was followed, among others, the cities of Erfurt, Magdeburg, Bamberg and Ilmenau.

This practice is legal but controversial. On 28 July 2009, the Administrative Court of Baden -Württemberg raised in Mannheim to Freiburg alcohol prohibition. Also the scheme in Magdeburg was declared by the Supreme Administrative Court on 17 March 2010 to be invalid. The judges saw the prohibition of the so called emergency regulation to be too vague.

Public transport in Germany

In addition to cities, transport companies try using alcohol ban harassment of other passengers and to reduce vandalism. According to the rules of many conditions of carriage may already have long been heavily intoxicated individuals who pose a danger to himself and others, do not use the public transport of the respective company or transport association. These provisions were extended in some cities, so that the consumption of alcohol is prohibited in the vehicles. This applies in Germany in the Rhine railway (since 1 July 2007), DSW 21, BOGESTRA, HCR, Vestische trams (all since June 2008) in the traffic group Stuttgart (since 1 January 2009), at the Munich Transport Company ( August 1, 2009 ) in the metronom Railroad Company (since November 15, 2009 ), at the VAG Nürnberg (since 1 January 2011) and at the Duisburg Transport Company ( since March 18, 2011 ). On July 1, 2011, alcohol prohibition was imposed in Hanover Main Station. In Hamburg Transport Association this scheme was introduced in most transport companies on September 1, 2011. But not including the ferries continue HADAG and the traits of the Nord-Ostsee -Bahn, the Northern Railway and trains operated by DB Regio. At the Nuremberg Central Station since October 19, 2012 is valid on Fridays from 20 clock until Sunday 6 clock, and before public holidays of 20 clock of the previous day to 6 clock on the following day an alcohol ban.

In the buses and light rail to the Cologne Transport AG consumption and the carriage of alcoholic beverages in open containers is prohibited by the introduced 2007 general eating and drinking ban. On September 1, 2013, this scheme was extended to the underground stations of KVB. For violations of the ban on alcohol threatens a disciplinary penalty of 40 € and a home reference, in case of recurrence, a ban can be imposed. The alcohol prohibition also applies to the light rail Stadtwerke Bonn AG ( SWB) for driving on the lines 16 and 18, while these are on the Cologne metropolitan area.

United States

After the repeal of alcohol prohibition applies in the United States in many parts of the country to ban the consumption of alcohol in public.

Czechia

Since July 7, 2008 shall apply in the center of the Czech capital Prague, a ban on alcohol in public. Outside of restaurants, pavement cafes and refreshment stalls only non- alcoholic beverages may be consumed in many parts of the city center. In October 2013, the ban was expanded considerably, so it is, for example, now within 100 m to playgrounds banned alcohol in public to consume. An infringement is punished with about 40 euros.

Poland

In Poland, a general ban on alcohol seen by the public, with the exception of the immediate range of restaurants and pubs. Since 2012 ( in the wake of the 2012 European Football Championship ) this has been extended to mass events such as stadiums and concerts.

In the international public transport

In the subways of London, Athens, Moscow, Washington DC Budapest and applies a ban on alcohol.
