Drop D tuning

The dropped- D tuning (also drop D tuning ) is a mood variation for guitars. Here, the sixth string (E - string or bass ) compared to the standard tuning ( EAdgh - e1) is tuned down a whole tone, that is DAdgh - e1.

Through this sentiment sounds when penetration of the open bass strings of the guitar a D-Power Chord ( DAd ). This mood makes it quick, clean and easy on the joints to move between chords. It is enough to lay with any finger of the gripping hand one -Barre on the bass strings. Because when you hit the open strings will not produce real chord, the dropped- D tuning is not an open atmosphere in the narrow sense.

She is (whether major or minor) suitable for pieces in D. The guitar sounds fuller; a D chord is now playing with little effort on all six strings. A variation of this mood is all strings in addition to one or more half tones to tune lower.

The dropped- D tuning is used in rock music and metal, particularly in the areas of Heavy Metal, Stoner Rock, Crossover, Metalcore and Nu Metal. A well-known classical guitarist and composer who writes a lot of his pieces in dropped- D, is living in Germany David Qualey.
