Drosera menziesii

Drosera menziesii is a plant of the genus Sonnentaue (Drosera ). This carnivorous plant is native with four subspecies in the western and south-western Australia.

Description

Drosera menziesii grows terrestrially as a perennial herbaceous plant. Outlasting as to form nodules of diameter up to 1.5 cm to achieve and in general is dark red, but also other shades are known. The up to 25 cm tall stalks grow " zig-zag " in height. Each prong is extended by an approximately 1 cm long petiole, sitting at the alternate one sheet. The sheets are circular with a diameter of up to 4 mm. On the upper leaf surface are densely glandular tentacles.

In lateral, two - to three -branched, schirmrispigen inflorescences are the usually dark pink flowers.

Occurrence

Drosera menziesii is native in South Australia.

It grows in swampy areas on clay, sand and / or peat soils. In the subtropical area of ​​the sites can completely dry out in summer. The summer dry season, survived in the underground tubers.
