Drumfunk
Drumfunk is a sub-genre of drum and bass, which was also known by the terms Edits or Choppage.
The focus of Drumfunk is mainly on the drums. There are often called funk and soul breaks like the Apache or the Amen used and arranged into complex rhythmic arrangements. This complex composition stands out clearly from the basic pattern of the mainstream Drum and Bass from which is mainly based on the so-called 2 -step rhythm.
The main criticism of this variety of drum and bass is that old production techniques one uses that have been mainly used to 1997 in Drum and Bass in 1994 and therefore want to yearn for a renaissance of the "good old days ". Even the artists of the accusation is often made to move more in the direction of breakcore. It is, however, often forget that there is less going on Drumfunk to the alienation of the rhythm than about creating a certain organic rhythm structure. The influences of Drumfunk come from many genres, but mainly from jazz, funk and dub.
The term itself was coined by Paradox, who with his tenacity and his publications on Reinforced since 1999 could gather a small community of loyal fans around him who were also disappointed by the simplicity and disposable mentality of the drum and bass community. While developed drum and bass more and more to pure dance music, most productions in Drumfunk should indeed also be danceable, but also to listen comfortably at home.
As one of the first artists of the new guard of this subgenre Breakage was known, who founded his remix of the classic Doc Scott " Here come the drums", was released on Reinforced the foundation for the further development until today. After several more releases of the remix of Equinox " Acid Rain " was released on Inperspective Records, which was also played by well-known DJs like Andy C. Breakage also rode it clear that Drumfunk not a niche product, but is also suitable for mass production.
