Duchess Jutta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz

Auguste Charlotte Jutta Alexandra Georgine Adolfine Duchess of Mecklenburg ( -Strelitz ) ( born January 24, 1880 in Neustrelitz, † February 17, 1946 in Rome ) was a member of the ducal house of Mecklenburg- Strelitz and was by marriage Princess and titular Queen of Montenegro.

Life

Jutta was the second eldest daughter of four children of Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich V (1848-1914) and his wife Princess Elisabeth of Anhalt- Dessau ( 1857-1933 ). Your paternal grandparents were Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Mecklenburg -Strelitz and Princess Augusta Caroline of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover. Her childhood revolved around perfect behavior and the social representation. She was taught entirely at home by governesses and tutors with the help of her father's library. Early on, she accompanied together with their siblings whose parents to visit relatives abroad. On one of the many family parties she met her future husband.

On July 27, 1899 married Princess Jutta in Cetinje the Crown Prince Danilo of Montenegro ( 1871-1939 ), the eldest son of King Montenegrin Nikola Petrović - Njegoš. On the eve of marriage, she performed under the name Militza over to the Orthodox Church. The marriage, which by all accounts was happy, remained childless.

The Princely House of Prince Nikola I was the inspiration for Franz Lehár 's operetta The Merry Widow. Even if the name Montenegro was renamed in the original libretto for reasons of censorship in the name of the similar sounding Spanish city Pontevedro: South Slavic -inspired musical numbers and especially the persons name Danilo and Njegoš (name of the Montenegrin dynasty ) can detect this easily; as once Princess Jutta of Mecklenburg -Strelitz married the widow Hanna Glawari a funny operetta Danilo.

After the death of her father in 1921, her husband was on 1 March 1921 exile to the king Danilo III. proclaimed. He abdicated after a week in favor of his nephew Michael of Montenegro and settled with his wife in Italy.
