Dujiangyan City

Dujiangyan (Chinese都江堰 市, pinyin Dujiangyan Shì ) is a county-level city, which belongs to the administrative area of the prefecture-level city of Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province. It is located at the point where the Min River (Min Jiang) after he was dammed in the new Zipingpu Dam pours out of the hills in the Chengdu Plain.

Dujiangyan has an area of ​​1207 km ² and around 590,000 inhabitants ( 2001). Administratively, the city itself is composed of 17 large municipalities.

Weir system

The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China and on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites since 1982.

2008 Sichuan earthquake
