Duke of Alba
The title of Duke of Alba ( Duque de Alba ) is one of the oldest tracks in the Spanish nobility and became in 1465 the Álvarez de Toledo family given that already the title of Conde de Alba de Tormes wore. Alba de Tormes is a place in the Spanish province of Salamanca ( See also: House Álvarez de Toledo)
The most famous bearer of this title was the third Duke of Alba, Fernando Álvarez de Toledo y Pimentel, who from 1567 to 1573 led a reign of terror over the insurgent population as governor of the Netherlands.
Over time, the title of female offspring reached into other families and was associated with more and more high and old Spanish titles.
Duchess of Alba
The current title holder, the 18th Duquesa de Alba, Cayetana Fitz- James Stuart, is on James Fitzjames, Duke of Berwick, a descendant of King James II of England and carries several dozen titles. It is the aforementioned 3rd Duke of Alba to fame after not much, why her marriage with Alfonso Diez has contributed. She is considered one of the richest women in Spain. As for the number of their titles of nobility, it is considered as the record holder. These consist of 15 tracks from a marquise, 8 tracks of a duchess, 19 tracks as the Countess and 20 different tracks of a Canal in Spain.
