Duke of Berwick
The title Duke of Berwick -upon- Tweed Berwick -upon- based on -Tweed on the northern border of England was created in 1687 for James Fitzjames, the illegitimate son of King James II of England by Arabella Churchill. The title and its subsidiary titles ( Baron of Bosworth and Earl of Tinmouth ) are generally regarded as forfeited, since the Duke had to follow his father into exile. However, it is argued that lifting the title was never performed correctly, so that he remained and is now run by the Spanish Dukes of Penaranda.
