Peter Friedrich Georg ( Petr Alexandrovich ) of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp, Prince of Oldenburg (born 9 Novemberjul / November 21 1868greg in Saint Petersburg, Russia;. . † March 11, 1924 in Biarritz, France) was a Russian nobleman. He was a great-grandson of Tsar Nicholas I and brother Tsar Nicholas II

Life

He was born the son of Alexander Friedrich Konstantin von Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp, Prince of Oldenburg and Yevgenia Maximilowna, Princess of Leuchtenberg. His great-grandfather was Tsar Nicholas I. He grew up in Saint Petersburg.

On 27 Julijul. / August 9 1901greg. he married in Gatchina the sister of Tsar Nicholas II, Olga Alexandrovna Romanova. During the marriage, he bore the name of Grand Duke Peter Alexandrovich of Holstein -Gottorp.

The couple directed a summer residence in a Gagra on the Black Sea. Peter built a palace, the city turned into an elite resort. Through State resources he built a hotel in the Norwegian style, a park and a Vienna luxury restaurant. Together with his wife he spent the summer in Gagra, organized major festivals and military parades. He planted palm trees, agaves, cypresses, cedars, magnolias, lemon and orange trees, imported parrots and monkeys.

The marriage was annulled on 16 October 1916, an imperial decree; in November 1916 married the Grand Duchess Colonel Nikolai Kulikowski. It turned out that Peter was gay and did not care for his wife.

After the October Revolution Peter left Russia and went with his parents into exile in France. In 1922 he married his second wife Olga Vladimirovna Biarritz Ratková - Rognova. He died there less than two years later at the age of 55 years.
