Active reactors ( gross ):

The Czech nuclear power plant Dukovany ( Czech Jaderná elektrárna Dukovany, also briefly JEDU, rarely EDU) is located at Dukovany in South Moravia. It is located about 50 kilometers west of Brno as well as 120 kilometers north of Vienna.

It was taken between 1985 and 1987 in operation and consists of four reactor units with a total capacity of 1792 MW. Owner and operator of a nuclear power plant is the company ČEZ.

History

With the construction of the first two blocks in twin arrangement was begun on 1 January 1979, on 1 March 1979 started the construction of units 3 and 4 on 3 May 1985, the first reactor block was put into operation. On March 21, 1986, the commissioning of Block 2 Block 3 was followed on 20 December of the same year in operation. In the fourth block, the first synchronization with the electricity network on July 19, 1987, carried out after more than eight years of construction.

As things stand, the switch-off of the first reactor block 2025 is provided since then the scheduled maturity is reached by 40 years.

The Czech Industry and Trade Minister Martin Kuba has asked to build another reactor at Dukovany prospect in February 2012.

Security

The four reactors are pressurized water reactors of Russian design ( VVER ) of the series 440 213 In the version of the VVER -440 is the second generation of nuclear reactors, developed by the Soviet Union in the years 1970 to 1980.

The power plant has no containment and is of the same type as the Soviet nuclear power plant Bohunice V2 in Slovakia or the blocks 5-8 of the 1990 decommissioned Greifswald nuclear power plant.

The lack of containment provides less protection of the plant against external events - such as destruction caused by a plane crash - as well as against escaping radioactivity major accident in the reactor hall. Furthermore, the list of blocks in two twin systems is considered with a common central hall for two reactors and the amalgamation of numerous safety and service facilities as well as risk, as in the other reactor accidents can not be shielded.

Mention in the media

Dukovany is also sideshow of the 2008 Austrian film produced the first day.

Data of the reactor units

The Dukovany nuclear power plant has four units:

Integration into the electricity grid

The current generated in the blocks passes through high-voltage lines to Sammelumspannwerk Slavětice where the load balancer is located. From the substation Slavětice a 380 kV line crosses over to Austria for substation Duernrohr.
