Dulovo, Bulgaria

Dulowo ( Bulg: Дулово, Romanian: Accadânalar, Turkish: Akkadınlar ) is a town in northeastern Bulgaria, in the Oblast Silistra. The city is to Silistra and Toutrakan the third largest city of Silistra Oblast. Dulowo is the center of the homonymous municipality Dulowo and is located in the Southern Dobruja.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1573 Dulowo in an Ottoman document under the name Akkadınlar, which translates to " white women " means ( white women / ladies, or pure or honest women / ladies). Near the village, the village was Alen Bachtscha ( German: famous garden). The settlement was burnt down several times, but was rebuilt under the Turkish name Akkadınlar again. Even before the end of Ottoman rule in 1878, the settlement had a mixed population of Turks and Bulgarians. This Bulgarians were settlers from the region around Preslav.

After the defeat in the Second Balkan War, Bulgaria was forced to cede the Southern Dobruja, together with the region of Romania. With the Treaty of Craiova of 1940, the village again fell to Bulgaria. In 1942 it received its present name Dulowo, reminiscent of the famous medieval Dulo dynasty of the Bulgarians. " owo " is the Slavic suffix to the name of place names. 1960 Dulowo was declared a city.

In the vicinity of the park Dulowo Schaschda ( Bulg Жажда ) is a grave mound. The region were found archaeological remains from the time of settlement during the Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Ottoman rule - pottery shards, coins, weapons, tools, building foundation. In the past flowed a river and there were many sources.

At the station there is a statue of Winston Churchill, who drove here on his way to the Soviet Union.

Geography

The area of the municipality is Dulowo predominantly flat and is crossed by some dry valleys of varying width, extending in a north-south direction. In Dobrogea most of the settlements have been built along these valleys. The height above sea level is 150 to 200 m.

The level of Dobrogea open to the north. The wind blows predominantly from the south and southeast. In winter blows a strong, cold north-easterly wind, the snow brings. In the summer there are often strong, hot winds that promote soil erosion.

The annual rainfall is 650 mm, which is below the average rainfall in Bulgaria. The drought has a negative effect on the tree and grass growth.

The area of ​​the municipality is covered 23% of the forest. It outweigh natural forests with oak, turkey oak, hornbeam and others. In the reforestation of the region with commercial forests and to reforest the land between the villages of coniferous trees were also planted.

Economy

The work " Agrokomb " manufactures agricultural machinery and spare parts, and to a lesser extent cast-iron tubes.

Culture

The historical museum was opened in 1998. It has archaeological and ethnographic exhibits, as well as a department for the recent history and a gallery.

The city festival takes place annually in May.
