Dulzaina

The Dulzaina (Spanish [ dulθajna ] ) or dolçaina ( Valencian - Catalan [ doɫsajna ] ) is a traditional Spanish woodwind instrument from the family of oboes. Its origins can be to the 3rd millennium BC traced back to Mesopotamia. She was brought to Spain in the conquest of Andalusia by the Arabs. Since then, she has helped shape the Spanish folk music in many regions. The first mention of the Spanish Dulzaina comes from the 13th century. Among other things, it was also mentioned in Don Quixote.

In the Valencia region it is also dolçaina or xirimita called. In Catalonia it is also called dolçaina that Gralla is a special type of Catalan Dulzaina. In other regions it is called gaita or pita.
