Dung Gate

The Dung Gate (also Dung Gate, Hebrew שער האשפות Sha'ar haAschpot, " Abfalltor "; Arabic باب المغاربة, DMG Bāb al - Maġāriba, Gate of Moroccans ') is one of the eight gates leading into the Old City of Jerusalem; It is located immediately southwest of the Temple Mount. The name of the dung gate comes from the Bible (Nehemiah 2:13 LUT). Even later, in the 2nd century, the gate was used for creating waste from the city.

Built in 1540 by Süleyman gate was very small. However, it was extended in 1948 by the Jordanians when the Jaffa Gate was closed to traffic. Its present form it received in 1985 under Mayor Teddy Kollek. Today, the Dung Gate allows direct access to the square in front of the Wailing Wall. Due to the enlargement and motor vehicles ( even buses ) can get close to the place here.
