Dunmanway

Dunmanway ( Irish: Dún Mánmhaí ) is a town in County Cork in the southwest of Ireland.

The place

Dunmanway is surrounded on three sides by mountains, in the southwest of County Cork and is the geographical center of the West Cork region.

Dunmanway is a planned city created in the 17th century, the two original three -legged places still exist. The center was created by two smaller tributaries of the River Bandon around, the self about 8 km west of the city rises and ( eastward flowing) Dunmanway happened on the eastern outskirts of the village.

In Ireland Dunmanway is primarily known for being the birthplace of the Protestant Republican and Gaelic football player Sam Maguire ( 1879-1927 ).

Traffic and Demographics

The city is located about 55 km south-west of Cork City; from the N71 national road in Bandon is 27 km away. On the rail transport in Ireland Dunmanway was connected 1866-1961.

The population of Dunmanway was determined during Census 2011, 2377 people. For the entire rural area of Dunmanway, the population was specified when Census 2006 with 7950 people.

The Breton community Quéven is twinned with Dunmanway.
