Duquende

Duquende, actually Juan Rafael Cortés Santiago (born 1965 in Sabadell, Spain ) is a Spanish flamenco singer. For a long time he was considered one of the successors of Camarón de la Isla.

Life

At the age of nine, he was invited by Camarón to accompany him with the guitar. In his artistic career Duquende stepped out of the footsteps of a successor, but did not deny his admiration for Camarón or for the traditional singing.

For twenty years he has performed at small theaters and flamenco clubs ( so-called Peñas ). There he developed his voice and vocal techniques. In 1997 he was asked by Paco de Lucía, to replace his brother Pepe in Septeto Paco de Lucía ( Paco de Lucía septet ). This Duquende was given the opportunity to develop through world tours on. Three years later he released the album Samaruco ( 2000).

In 1995 he was the first flamenco singer, who was invited to perform at the Théâtre des Champs- Élysées in Paris. He has worked with artists such as Tomatito, Manzanita, Juan Carmona, Juan Manuel Cañizares, Juan Habichuela, Moraíto Chico and Vicente Amigo.
