The Dusseldorf Marathon ( officially named after the main sponsor METRO Group Marathon ) is a marathon in Dusseldorf, which takes place in May since 2003. The route is a flat down to the Rhine crossings circuit. The start is on the Joseph Beuys-Ufer on the Rhine north of the center. The first few kilometers of the most spectator strong running track leading past the Messe Düsseldorf, by Their village and Duesseltal in the north, then the zoo area in the city center, where there is the half way mark on the Berliner Allee. From there it goes to Unterbilk and in the new harbor, past the Gehry Buildings ( 25 km ) in the direction of King Avenue and Upper Kassel.

Since the 2005 event has its own unicycle Score ( → Main article: German Unicycle Marathon Championship ). The unicycle riders start together with the handbikers. Driving is divided into two classes: a standard class (. . Maximum wheel diameter 733 mm, 114 mm crank length min, ratio 1:1 ) and a Unlimited class ( larger wheels, shorter cranks and gear ratio are allowed). The race is rated as International German Unicycle Marathon Championship.

The 2006 event the route was modified after the half way mark: The addition to the left-bank loop in Upper Kassel and Lorick was on the north of the old town Oberkasseler bridge (km 29), the past passed the runners on the final kilometers at the Tonhalle. Thus, the spectator rich king avenue was run twice (km 27 and km 41 ), which for the organizers also had the advantage of being able to dispense with the former traffic restriction on the Rheinkniebrücke in the southwest. The aim was to continue on the Rhine a few meters in front of the historic Castle Square.

For the 2008 event, the route was changed again. After the northern loop immediately after the start of the left-bank loop joins in Upper Kassel and Lorick. The Oberkasseler bridge is thus already crossed between miles 9 and 10 and between km 19 and 20. Subsequently, the western loop (km 21 to km 32), the southern loop with the King Avenue and follow the target on the Rhine.
