Dwight Yoakam

Dwight David Yoakam ( born October 23, 1956 in Pikeville, Kentucky) is an American country singer, songwriter and actor.

Life

He began playing guitar at the age of six years. First acting experience was gained in school plays. After an aborted study Yoakam, decided to try his country musician and moved to Nashville in 1977. At this time the mainstream country was strongly influenced by pop influences. It was the highlight of the Urban Cowboy movement. The orienting themselves to Buck Owens and Merle Haggard and her Bakersfield Sound Dwight Yoakam found with his rougher style little support and then moved to Los Angeles, where the scene was more receptive to traditional country music.

Music career

A self-financed album earned him a 1984 contract with the Reprise label. In 1984 he released his debut album, Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc.. Etc.. His second album, Hillbilly Deluxe was successful. With a single from his third album in 1988, he managed his first number 1 hit: Streets of Bakersfield. He took this song together with his idol Buck Owens. The following productions achieved consistently high rankings charts. The somewhat unconventional and inappropriate Yoakam stayed with his sales figures but often behind country stars such as George Strait or Randy Travis back.

In 1994, he played a generally be respected as the best album This Time. For the single from the album Is not That Lonely Yet he was awarded a Grammy.

Parallel to the musician's career, his career developed as an actor. He had the first small appearance in 1993 in the Nicholas Cage / Dennis Hopper film Red Rock West. In Play Trailer is his song "a thousand miles from nowhere" to hear. He got his first leading role in 1996 in Sling Blade - The Razor's Edge. In South of Heaven, West of Hell he also directed. In 2002, he occupied the role of the masked " Raoul " in Panic Room. In 2006 he got a supporting role in Crank, in which he stars alongside Jason Statham as a doctor Miles.
