Dythemis

Dythemis velox

Dythemis is a string of eight kinds of dragonflies genus. The genus belongs to the subfamily Trithemistinae and was described in 1842 by Jules Pierre Rambur. As Generotyp served a previously designated as Libellula pullata dragonfly. The distribution area extends from Colombia to in the lowland Parana in Argentina.

Features

Dythemis species are comparatively small to medium sized dragonflies and reach lengths of 25-32 mm. Their wings are dark and very wide. Of the other genera it differs by not contacting compound eyes.

Habitat

In ponds and in swamps where they wait The adults of the genus Dythemis on grasses sitting on prey.
