Earl Brewster

Earl Henry Brewster ( b. 1878 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, † 1957) was an American painter, writer and scholar. He was married to the painter Achsah Barlow Brewster.

Life

He studied at the Cleveland School of Art and the New York School of Art Together with his wife he lived a long time in India, where he became interested in Buddhism and Vedanta. About these topics he published several works.

Brewster and his wife were among her friends many international personalities from the political and cultural life, including the Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the writer Walter Karig. A particularly close friendship with him DH Lawrence.
