Earl Eby

Earl Eby ( Earl William Eby, born November 18, 1894 in Aurora, Illinois, † December 14, 1970 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania) was an American middle-distance runners and sprinters.

In World War I he served in the United States Army and rose to the rank of second lieutenant. The Inter- Allied Games in 1919 he won over 400 meters and was second in the 800 meters.

In 1920 he qualified as a U.S. champion over 880 yards for the Olympic Games in Antwerp, where he more than 800 meters silver medal in 1:53,7 min behind the British Albert Hill ( 1:53,4 min) and ahead of South African Bevil Rudd ( 1:53,7 min) won.

1917, 1920 and 1923, he became a U.S. indoor champion over 600 yards and 1921, starting for the University of Pennsylvania, NCAA champion in the 880 yards.

After his playing career, he became a sports journalist.
