Earl Hamner, Jr.

Earl Henry Hamner Jr. (* July 10, 1923 in Nelson County, Virginia) is an American screenwriter and film producer. He is the inventor of the television series The Waltons and Falcon Crest.

Life

Earl Hamner was the son of Earl Henry Hamner sr. Doris Giannini Hamner and his wife in Schuyler, a community outdoor area in Nelson County ( Virginia) was born and grew up in a large family. He had six siblings. Hamner 's father worked in a factory that produced the soap until he lost his job mid-1930s due to the Great Depression again. After the family moved to Waynesboro, where Earl Hamner senior had found work in a chemical plant. Although the family often lived below the poverty line, Earl Hamner Jr. described his childhood later than "happy".

After graduating from Schuyler High School in 1940 Hamner earned a scholarship to the private University of Richmond. In 1943, however, he had to interrupt his studies and then served two years as a soldier in World War II. Upon his return to Virginia to Hamner settled in Richmond, and began working for the radio station WMBG. He later moved to Illinois, where he graduated from Northwestern University. Finally, he studied at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio journalism. He received his diploma in 1948. A year later he moved to New York City.

In 1953 Hamner wrote the novel Fifty Roads to Town, whose plot is about a young woman who lives in the mountains of Virginia. First, he produced and wrote but for television series, including Twilight Zone or Wagon Train. In 1968 he wrote the screenplay for Heidi returns home ( Heidi ), which was filmed with Maximilian Schell and Jean Simmons in the lead roles.

Hamner 's second novel, Spencer 's Mountain ( German: Summer of expectation ), which was published in 1961, tells of the stories of the extended family Spencer. Warner Brothers filmed this book in 1963, directed by Delmer Daves. When the CBS Corporation in 1971 recognized the potential of the novel, this family called the Walton - and one of the most famous television series was invented. Hamner, who was also heard in every episode of the series as narrator voiceover, in 1972 and 1973 respectively nominated for an Emmy Award ever. 1981 Hamner created with Falcon Crest another successful format television history; also recorded Hamner served as a producer and writer.

At one of his most famous movies, the comedy film Sugar 's counted Farm - Wilbur in happiness from the year 1973.

Earl Hamner Jr. is married to Jane Martin, since October 1954. They have two children; Son Scott Hamner, the screenwriter was also, also wrote some episodes of Falcon Crest and The Waltons.
