Earl Howe

Earl Howe is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, named after the family Howe, from which it is worn. He had previously been awarded already once in the Peerage of Great Britain.

The family seat is Penn House in Penn Street, Buckinghamshire.

Ceremonies

The title of Viscount Howe was first awarded in the Peerage of Ireland in 1701 to Scrope Howe. The famous Admiral Richard Howe, 4th Viscount Howe was after he had resigned the office of the First Lord of the Admiralty, Earl Howe and Baron Howe, both in the Peerage of Great Britain levied.

At his death the earldom became extinct because he had no male descendant, the Viscountswürde fell to his brother and the title Baron Howe to his oldest daughter. The latter title was provided at the awards ceremony with a special note, which made ​​this possible.

Richard Curzon, the eldest son of the second Baroness had inherited in 1820 from his paternal grandfather the title Viscount Curzon. The following year he was elevated to Earl Howe in the Peerage of the United Kingdom and changed his name to Curzon - Howe. In 1835 he inherited after his mother's death, the barony.
