Earl of Harrowby

Earl of Harrowby in the County of Lincoln is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, which is supported by the Family Ryder.

Ancestral homes of the family are Harrowby Hall in Lincolnshire and Sandon Sandon Hall in Staffordshire.

Award

The title was created in 1809 for Dudley Ryder, 2nd Baron Harrowby. This had previously been Secretary of State under William Pitt. Later he was 15 years Lord President of the Council.

Subordinate title

The Earl of Harrowby leads the same time conferred title Viscount Sandon as subordinate title, which is also guided by the heirs of each title as a courtesy title.

Further, the subordinate title of Baron Harrowby, of Harrowby, in the County of Lincoln, out. This belongs to the Peerage of Great Britain and in 1776 for the father of the first Earl, a Member of the House of Commons, created.
