Earl of Sandwich

Earl of Sandwich is a hereditary British title of nobility in the Peerage of England, named after the town of Sandwich in England, which is supported by the Montague family.

The family seat is Mapperton in Dorset.

Award

The title was created in 1660 by Charles II and Sir Edward Montagu awarded. This was a famous admiral and politician, the particular operation the Stuart Restoration, after Oliver Cromwell supports up to his death.

Subordinate title

The Earl of Sandwich also still bears the subsidiary title Viscount Hinchingbrooke and Baron Mountagu, of St Neots in the County of Huntingdon. These titles were created in 1660 and belong to the Peerage of England.

The eldest son of the Earl used courtesy title Viscount Hinchingbrooke.

Others

The sandwich called a sandwich for lunch is named after the fourth Earl. Supposedly he was making sandwiches, so he did not have to interrupt meals because of something as unimportant his bridge or cribbage games.
