East Island / Whangaokeno

East Iceland or Whangaokeno is a small island two kilometers east of East Cape before the North Island of New Zealand.

She was the original location of today on the East Cape lighthouse standing. This was built in 1900 on the island. However, they proved to be prone to earthquakes and the steep cliffs caused numerous landslides. In 1920 it was decided therefore to move the lighthouse to the mainland. In 1922, he was dismantled and taken to the East Cape again.
