East Thurlow Iceland is an island in British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Discovery Islands.

History

After the island was named after an English Lord and Chancellor, it was discovered that this were two islands. The strait between the two island was Blind Channel called because they had George Vancouver overlooked during his expedition. However, this strait was not so easy to explore for future expeditions because of its hidden location. The strait between the two islands was however renamed Mayne Passage, but the old name remained in the memory of the inhabitants of the new settlement at the eastern end of the sister island.

1910, a sawmill was built with a total of 17 employees of the Thurlow Iceland Lumber Company. Eight years later, the population grew to 120 and it became a regular ferry built. In addition, a canning factory, a shingle mill and two large dance halls were built.

Around the year 1930, nine illegal distillations were constructed that produced drinks with a high alcohol content. Two of them left their productions for those who prefer to trust the security of the approved product, approve it.
