Eau Rouge

The Eau Rouge (French for " red water " ) is a small river in Belgium which flows into the Amel (French Amblève ). The lake is named after the ferruginous, reddish water in the upper reaches.

The river played in the past also have a role as a border. During the Roman period the Eau Rouge was the limit of the administrative units of Tongeren ( Civitas Tungrorum ) and Cologne ( Civitas Agrippinensium ). Between 1815 and 1920 the brook marked the border from Belgium to Prussia.

The Eau Rouge corner of the circuit of Spa -Francorchamps is named after the creek.

Eau Rouge Viaduct

The Eau Rouge Viaduct ( Viaduc de l' Eau Rouge ), the A27 ( E42 ) motorway, which runs from Battice to the German border at Steinebrück, in a wide arc across the valley of the Eau Rouge. Both the width of the valley as the extreme acidity of the soil near the creek are the reasons for the size of the bridge. It has a length of 652 meters, the distance between the two central columns is 270 meters. The peak height of the bridge is 45 meters.
