The Ebenalp seen from the air
The Ebenalp is the northern end of the Alpsteins and is with its height of 1,644 m above sea level. M. on a ridge that extends from the Säntisgipfel to Schäfler.
On the Ebenalp leads from Wasserauen one of the four cable cars Alpsteins. In summer, the Ebenalp is a major center for paragliders. At the same time Ebenalp is a popular hiking destination, reachable from the Appenzell places Weissbadstrasse and Wasserauen that are achievable with the Appenzeller Bahn.
A special feature is located below the Ebenalp bear cave, a karst cave in the limestone, are issued at the end in a hut teeth and claws of cave bears. Through the cave is a walking path, past Wildkirchli to the inn Aescher, built impressive under a steep rock crash against the rock. Easily accessible from there are Schäfler, Seealpsee, Altenalp and Bommenalp.
The Säntisgipfel is achieved with a nearly four-hour hike. On the cliffs below the Ebenalp Climbing is operated (up to Difficulty 9).
In winter, on the Ebenalp with two lifts a modest ski and snowboard as well as snowshoe sports possible. As the total Alpstein the focus of winter sports, however, lies more in the ski touring opportunities for savvy skiers.
