The Estación Científica Antártica Ruperto Elichiribehety ( ECARE ) is the official name of a research station operated in the summer of the State of Uruguay in the Antarctic Peninsula.

It is located 500 meters from the Argentinean Esperanza Station, southeast of Caleta Choza the opening of the Bay Bahía Esperanza in the northeast of the Antarctic Peninsula. It was founded on 22 December 1997 by the Instituto Antártico Uruguayan. The first head of the station was named after José Ruperto Elichiribehety Unzurruzaga. The human capacity is 7 people.

History

The station was built in 1945 by the British Antarctic Survey as a base D ( Hope Bay ). The station was destroyed in 1948 in part through the fire, and closed in 1964. On 8 December 1997, the British Antarctic Survey gave the station from Uruguay. Since then, she bears her name today
