Peculiarities of a young blonde is a Portuguese- French film from the year 2009. Directed by Manoel de Oliveira, one of the oldest active film directors in the world. The subject is the adaptation of a novel by Eca de Queiroz from the turn of the century.

The clerk Macário languishes at a young blonde who manages her fan in an incomparable way. He woos her, makes an inaugural visit to her mother, trying to gain the consent of his rich uncle to marry alone: the fate prevents provisionally that he can close his lover 's arms. (Daniela Sannwald )

" What do not you tell your wife and best friend, tell a stranger in the tavern " is a Galician saying. The hero of the film adheres to it. On the way to the Algarve, he reported a traveling lady of the great, tragic love of his life. Macário called the young man, who as a bookkeeper for his uncle Francisco operates in Lisbon and from the porch of his office can see the window of a house across the street: Here lives a young woman who likes standing at the window and gives a Chinese fan cooling. Macário falls immediately into it. When he sees a friend leave her house, it shall, through this you in touch with the young woman. One feels closer. Soon, plans to marry. But the uncle forbids! As Macário insists he is the nephew of the door.
Macário decides to move now on the Cape Verde Islands, where he perceives the commercial interests of a friend. As a rich man, he returned to Lisbon, where he again plans to marry the unique young girl. But again it makes the fate of a spanner in the works. Once again, he should do his friend a favor and now vouch for its enormous debt. Macário agrees - but a few days later has the "friend " evaporates together with all its assets abroad. Again, the marriage seems a distant memory ...
Criticism
" The trials and tribulations of Macário staged Oliveira in a tasteful dark and muted colors. Gentlemen greet women by taking off their hats. Seller act between cherry wood shelves full of noble bales of cloth. At dinner parties, the illustrious guests turn in front of gilded mirrors in gloss multi-armed candelabras. The ambience is one. Whether the end is banal or ironic, critical of society or mysterious to understand, less so. "
