Échirolles

Échirolles is a commune in the department of Isère, in the Rhône -Alpes. It counts 35,995 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and, together with Saint -Martin- d'Hères of the most significant communities in the agglomeration of Grenoble.

The urban embossed Échirolles lies in the valley of the Drac immediately south of the city of Grenoble. Other neighboring municipalities are Brié -et- Angonnes, Champagnier, Claix, Eybens, Jarrie, Le Pont -de- Claix, Seyssins and Bresson. Is accessed through the Échirolles rocade Sud ( southern ring road of Grenoble) and by the line A tram Grenoble.

In the village there are two museums. One is dedicated to the once important viscose industry, the other presents the life and work of the poet Géo -Charles.
