Echo Protocol

The echo - network service is a simple service of the Internet Protocol Suite. The task of the ministry is unchanged return all received data to the client. It is therefore suitable for testing and debugging during the development of client programs.

For the Echo service of TCP and UDP port 7 is reserved. The Echo protocol is specified in RFC 862.

On Unix systems, the Echo service - just like the other common network services ( Daytime, Discard, etc.) - usually implemented directly in inetd. For Windows systems, these network services are in the optional Windows component Simple TCP / IP Services.
