Ed de Goey

Edward Francis "Ed" de Goey (also spelled Ed de Goeij ) ( born December 20, 1966 in Gouda) is a former Dutch football goalkeeper.

Career

Ed de Goey began his career in 1985 at Sparta Rotterdam, after five years he moved to local rivals Feyenoord. During his time at Feyenoord, he missed only eight games, won the Dutch championship in 1993, four times in the Dutch Cup in 1994 and was voted best Dutch goalkeeper. In 1997 he moved for about four million euros for emerging Chelsea FC, which made him the most expensive goalkeeper at that time the Premier League. During his first two seasons at Chelsea he was goalkeeper and presented in the 1999/00 season two club records, most of the inserts in a season (59) and fewest goals conceded in a season (27) on. Both records have since been surpassed by Frank Lampard and Petr Čech. As Chelsea 2000 Carlo Cudicini undertook de Goey was usually only the second keeper, so he competed in his last three seasons at Chelsea only a total of 25 missions. In 2003, the Dutchman to Stoke City, for whom he played until 2006 56 games to end of his career. In July 2007 he signed a contract as a coach at Queens Park Rangers, but this only lasted until December of that year.

He stood 31 times for Oranje Oranje in the gate, and was the first goalkeeper in the Football World Cup 1994, where you failed in the quarterfinals at the eventual champions Brazil.
