Ed Diener

Edward F. Diener (* 1946 in Glendale, California) is an American psychologist and author. He has been researching for over 25 years in the field of cross-cultural research on happiness or Subjective well-being and is equipped with 260 professional articles that are cited in more than 30,000 scientific papers, one of the researchers most cited and best known in this area.

Since 1999, Diener is a Senior Scientist of the Gallup Organization and consults in the areas of Well-Being and Positive Psychology.

Life

Servant was born in 1946 in Glendale ( California).

In 1968 he received his B. A. in psychology at California State University; In 1974 his doctorate at the University of Washington. In 2008 he retired, returned after 34 years of faculty membership at the University of Illinois, from the doctrine.

The focus of his research on Happiness and Subjective Well-Being began in the early 1980s. In 1980 servant of his first year of research in the Virgin Islands with the explicit goal to change the focus of his research. Its publication Subjective Well-Being ( Psychological Bulletin, 1984) was the first comprehensive and later much-cited work in this area.

From 1998 to 2003 he was editor of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and is currently editor of the Journal of Happiness Studies. The journal Perspectives on Psychological Science, he co-founded.

In 2010 he received an honorary doctorate from the Free University Berlin.

2012 won the Award for Distinguished Scientific servant Contributions of the American Psychological Association, a prize for significant theoretical or empirical contributions to basic psychological research.

His wife, Carol, and three of his five children (Robert Biswas -Diener, Marissa L. Diener, Mary Beth Diener McGavran ) are also psychologists.
