Ed Lee (politician)

Edwin Mah Lee (Chinese李孟贤; born May 5, 1952 in Seattle, Washington) is the 43rd mayor of San Francisco and the first mayor of Asian descent, his parents were like many others immigrated in the 1930s from Taishan. He was elected in a regular election for a full term of office on 11 January 2011 by the City Council as the successor to Gavin Newsom for the remainder of the term and on 8 November 2011.

Lee attended Bowdoin College and studied for his degree there in 1974 at the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1978 he completed his studies.

Lee is married and has two daughters.
