Edgar A. Sharp

Edgar Allan Sharp ( born June 3, 1876 in Patchogue, New York, † November 27, 1948 ) was an American politician. Between 1945 and 1947 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Edgar Allan Sharp attended public schools and high schools. He was 1898-1906 as a clerk ( clerk ) in the mailroom of Patchogue active and 1906-1918 as deputy postmaster. After that he was from April 1918 to January 1920 responsible for the construction work of the Knights of Columbus in France and the UK. Sharp then went to Patchogue real estate and insurance business. He was 1920-1944 as a real estate expert in Suffolk County and worked 1929-1944 as an auctioneer. In addition, he went to banking transactions. He sat 1930-1933 in the planning and building law office ( zoning and planning board) of Brookhaven. Then he worked 1935-1943 as Town Supervisor of Brookhaven. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1944, Sharp was the first electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Leonard W. Hall on January 4, 1945. Since he resigned in 1946 to run again, he retired after January 3, 1947 from the Congress. Then he resumed his former business activities. He died on 27 November 1948 in Patchogue and was then buried in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram.
