Edgar Barens

Edgar Barens ( born 1961 or 1962 in Illinois) is an American documentary film producer, the Prison terminal with an Oscar in the category of best documentary short film was nominated for his 2013 work on a created a dying prisoners.

Life

Edgar Barens is a graduate of Southern Illinois University Film School and is since 1988 active film producer. He is a Master of Fine Arts. Barens is Project Manager of the Open Society Foundations for the Department of the Center on Crime, Communities & Culture, which deals with the judicial system of the United States and financed films to educate about it.

With the filming of Prison Terminal began in 2006, for the necessary equipment, he honored his pension fund. During production, it was in spite of grants by the Illinois Arts Council, one of the Open Society Foundations, the Jane Addams College of Social Work, University of Illinois at Chicago, the International Documentary Association and the Blue Mountain Center always financial constraints. Until the completion of the film in 2013 Barens worked in various jobs, among others as a car salesman and as a medical clerk for blood sampling.
