Edgar Basel

Edgar Basel ( born 1 November 1930 in Mannheim; † 7 September 1977) was a German flyweight boxer.

Amateur

Basel was a five-time German champion in the flyweight (1951, 1952, 1954-1956). At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, he won in this weight class the silver medal, he was defeated there in the finals of the American Nathan Brooks. In 1955 he won at the European Championships in Berlin. Basel was also nominated for the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, failed there, however, already in the first fight on the representative of the Soviet Union Vladimir Stolnikow.

Professional

In 1957 he became a professional. As a technician, his fights were often decided on points. In May 1958, he fought for the vacant title of the German bantamweight champion against Bochum Alfred Schweer. In the fight for the featherweight title he failed 1961 Willy Quatuor from Dortmund by TKO. Almost exactly a year later called Basel turn out Quatour. And this time, he was defeated him by TKO. His last fight on 24 November 1961 should give him the new title of the German bantamweight champion, but his opponents Klaus Jager (Frankfurt am Main ) won by technical knockout in the seventh round. He then ended after just four years in the professional wrestling his career.
