Edgar Sanabria

Edgar Sanabria ( born October 3, 1911 in Caracas, † April 24, 1989 ) was a Venezuelan lawyer, diplomat and politician, and November 14, 1958 to February 13, 1959 President of Venezuela.

He served as interim president for the retired on 14 November for the election campaign Wolfgang Larrazábal and the winner of the elections of December 7, Rómulo Betancourt, which was established on 13 February to office.

Early years and career

His parents were Jesús Sanabria Arcia Bruzual and Teresa. He studied law at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and graduated in 1935 as Doctor of Political Sciences. From 1936 to 1941 he worked as a professor and ( 1936-1940 ) as a director in the National Library. In 1941 he was appointed Legal Adviser at the Foreign and in the financial and Promotion Department and in 1944 director of the Ministry of Education. In addition to the latter, he also taught for a time in some universities.

After the fall of the dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez, he was appointed Secretary of the Government Junta that took power on 23 January 1958.

Presidency

On November 14, 1958 he handed over the presidency Wolfgang Larrazábal because of the election campaign. In the elections of 7 December, Rómulo Betancourt won the position which he took up on February 13, 1959.

In his short tenure Edgar Sanabria adopted, among others, a university law, which guaranteed that their autonomy.

Last years

From 1959 to 1963 he was ambassador to the Vatican, 1964-1968 in Switzerland from 1968 to 1970 in Austria and then honorary ambassadors at the Foreign Ministry.
