Edite Estrela

Edite Estrela Marreiros Fátima dos Santos (born 28 October 1949 in Bellver ( Carrazeda de Ansiães ) ) is a Portuguese politician. She is a member of the Partido Socialista (PS) and Member of the European Parliament. Her interests include women's rights.

Estrela put his bachelor's degree in classical philology and the master from in media studies. From 1973 to 1986 she worked as a teacher of Portuguese literature, later she was the author of television and radio programs about the Portuguese language that they also moderated itself. In addition, it has been a constant contributor to many newspapers and news magazines and 1988-1994 Vice President of the Portuguese Writers' Association. She has been honored with several national and international awards.

The PS came Estrela in 1981, where she has held numerous high-ranking positions. From 1994 to 2002 she held the position of Mayor of Sintra, in that time she was also deputy district president of the Greater Lisbon.
