Edmond Adolphe de Rothschild

Edmond Adolphe de Rothschild (born 30 September 1926 in Paris; † 3 November 1997) was a French banker and investor. He is a descendant of the famous Frankfurt banker Mayer Amschel Rothschild.

Life

Edmond Adolphe was the son of Maurice de Rothschild (1881-1957), heir to one-third of the Paris Rothschild bank, and Noémie Halphen. He studied in Geneva and Paris law. His second wife, he married Nadine Lhopitalier 1963, with whom he Benjamin de Rothschild ( b. 1963 ) had. It was founded in 1968 by the death of his father to the heirs billion, which allowed him to enter into a global business in the sectors of real estate, urban development, oil production, supermarkets, banking and tourism on the Companie Financière Holding. He was co-founder of Creafin AG and co-owner of other financial institutions such as the Rothschild Bank AG in Zurich, the Banca Privata Edmond de Rothschild SA in Lugano and the Banque Privée Edmond de Rothschild in Geneva.

Rothschild was co-founder and venture capitalists of the Club Med; built from Megève, where his father had already opened earlier a hotel, and held shares in Shell and De Beers. In 1979 he bought for the purpose of viticulture, the Château Clarke Médoc; with 18%, he was also involved in the Château Lafite.

Rothschild promoted Israel, whose bonds he covered in Europe and he provided financial support, including he founded the Israel General Bank. The Journal Record estimated the assets of the Knight of the French Legion of Honour in 1996 to 1 to 1.5 billion CHF.
